by K. Steigen VETERAN SONGWRITER ALBERT HAMMOND COMES BACK BIG IN 2010 WITH DUFFY COLLABORATION AND NEW DUETS RECORD Los Angeles, California, September 23, 2010 – In an exciting return to the international pop music scene, Albert Hammond makes his mark on 2010 by writing and producing with British phenom Duffy and releasing a new duets album featuring the greatest hits of his remarkable career.
Albert Hammond teamed up with Duffy to write and produce her new album “Endlessly” out November 29th on A&M Records. Written and recorded in New York, Spain and London over the past year and a half, the new album has formed a unique partnership between Hammond and Duffy. The infectious single “Well, Well, Well” is the first taste from this heady confection and features an incomparable rhythm section played by hip-hop band The Roots. Album highlights include “My Boy,” “Endlessly,” “Don’t Forsake Me,” “Lovestruck” and “Breath Away.”
In summer of 2008, after a near two-decades-long hiatus from the music scene, Hammond enlisted Los Angeles-based publisher 2850 Music and manager Kasaan Steigen of Trigger Management to help revive his songwriting career. First up were collaborations with LA’s The Writing Camp (Beyonce, Rihanna), Matt Scannell (Vertical Horizon), and Nashville songwriter Liz Rose (Taylor Swift).
Next Ms. Steigen looked for current artists to team up with Hammond. She says, “I wanted to take Albert’s timeless songwriting style and pair him with new artists who share his classic sound and sensibility. There is a magical blend of vibrant, youthful energy and ‘old soul’ wisdom to Albert. I thought Duffy would be a great match for him.”
After being introduced to each other by their managers during 2009 Grammy week, Hammond and Duffy immediately forged a unique bond and started writing the songs that are now featured on “Endlessly.”
Also in 2010, Hammond completes work on a new album featuring an international array of artists performing with him on duets of his most loved hits as a songwriter in English and Spanish. Artists appearing on the record include Al Stewart, Cliff Richard, Bonnie Tyler, Helena Paparizou, Courtney Taylor (Dandy Warhols), Raphael, Rosario, Ana Belen, David Summer (Los Hombres G), Dani Martin (El Canto del Loco), and a first-ever duet with his son Albert Hammond, Jr. (The Strokes). The album comes out later this year on Sony Spain.
Albert Hammond became an international star in 1972 with his hit recording of the song “It Never Rains in Southern California” (written by Hammond and long-term writing partner Mike Hazlewood). He is best known as a songwriter for a long string of hits in the 70’s and 80’s, including “When I Need You,” “The Air that I Breathe,” “To All the Girls I’ve Loved Before,” “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” and “One Moment in Time.” Hammond was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2008.
Welsh singer-songwriter Duffy took the world by storm with her 2008 debut album “Rockferry” selling over 6.5 million copies worldwide and winning numerous accolades including three BRITs and one Grammy. “Rockferry” was the biggest selling album of 2008 in the UK and is one of Universal Music’s most successful debut artists ever.
Trigger Management specializes in career development and creative direction for songwriters, recording artists and producers. Founded by Kasaan Steigen in New York in 2002 as an incubator for new talent, the company relocated to Los Angeles in 2005 and expanded its roster to work with upcoming to legacy acts.
