CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS: Career Day at Bret Harte Middle School

We are honored to invite you to participate in the Annual Career Day at Bret Harte Middle School, to be held on April 28, 2010.

Los Angeles Unified School District
Bret Harte Middle School
9301 S. Hoover Street
Los Angeles, CA 90044
(323) 242-5400

Career Day has become vitally important to the students who need to hear from successful role models from the local and surrounding communities.  Their goal is to provide their students with the information concerning educational requirements and experiences that may be necessary in their pursuit of a career.  We would appreciate your efforts in connecting our students to the world of work and motivating them to stay in school. Your participation will make a difference in a child’s life.

The students you will be addressing range in ages from eleven to fourteen years old, and are in the sixth, seventh and eight grades.  You will have 20 minutes to speak about your profession, why you chose the profession and what motivated you to stay in school and continue with a college or vocational education.  I encourage you to tell students what your life was like at their age and what your thoughts were about learning as a teenager.  In the same classroom, there will also be another speaker during period 2 in which you can enjoy and listen. After period 2 we would like you to stay to participate in our Interactive Career Fair. At this time more students will have the opportunity to meet you and ask questions.

The following is a tentative schedule of Career Day:

Date:  April 28, 2010
Time:  8:50-9:10        Welcoming in Library
Time:  9:16 -10:10     Speaker Presentation/s
Time:  10:10-11:00    Lunch/Break for Speakers
Time:  11:10-12:40    Interactive Career Fair for Students

Please contact AIMP Executive Director Kasaan Steigen, kasaan@roadrunner.com for more information or to volunteer.  As you may recall, the AIMP partnered with 'Operation Hope' on September 29th, 2009 on the "Five Million Kids" initiative.
