Welcome to the Latin Corner!

January 1, 2009

We at AIMP are thrilled to be able to communicate with the vast and talented Latin community of Publishers and Songwriters.

In creating the Latin Corner, AIMP intends to become a source of information, education and consultation about the topics that interest us all in the Latin market of U.S.A  As we enter the Digital era with all its challenges and opportunities, it is more important than ever that we can make decisions based on the correct information.

The Latin Corner will be a tool for all members and non-members who need to know about subjects like intellectual property, copyright registration and protection, news from the Library of Congress, expert’s opinions and concerns in the ever changing landscape of the business.

It is important to realize that we can no longer remain indifferent or neutral in the problems that we face as publishers and songwriters.  We must participate and exercise our rights to be fairly compensated for the works we create; a world without music would not be nearly as fun as it is with it.

As mechanical copyright royalties fade away and new configurations and exploitations of music become the norm, we must remain vigilant and alert about rates and licensing.  From our Latin Corner, we will try to keep you up to date on information about these topics and more.

Hasta la próxima!

altLatin Corner is brought to you by Maximo Aguirre,  Maximo Aguirre Music Publishing, Inc.  Maximo is a member of the AIMP National Board of Directors.  Maximo Aguirre Music Publishing is the most successful independent Latin publishing company in the United States. It represents more that 35 catalogs of songs from all over Latin America, in addition to the entire catalog of songs from SACM of Mexico, the only performance society of that country. Some of today’s most important songwriters, including Claudia Brant and Alejandro Lerner, have found in MAMP the ideal place to project their music. MAMP is present in all markets of Latin music and almost all genres: Salsa, Merengue, Pop, Mexican regional, Regueton, Jazz, Instrumental, Country, Classical and Tropical. With a constant presence on the charts with songs performed by the most famous Latin artists, MAMP is also very active in placing song in films and TV series. The company is also working to create a library of Latin music, the first of its kind, where music directors will be able to download and license the best of Latin music, including master recordings. MAMP has sub-publishers in all important markets of Latin America and is represented in the rest of the world by Kobalt.
