Copyright Royalty Board Issues Rate Decision

The Copyright Royalty Board has issued their decision for mechanical royalty rates on Physical Phonorecords, Permanent Digital Downloads and Ringtones as follows:

Physical Phonorecords:                     $09.1cents + overtime rate
Permanent Digital Downloads:           $09.1cents + overtime rate
Ringtones:                                          $.24 cents

The AIMP is pleased with this critical decision as the RIAA and DIMA were pushing for a reduction in mechanical royalty payments. Anything less than this would lead to the erosion of an already distressed business.

This decision is a confirmation of the value of music, the importance of fair treatment for songwriters & publishers and will motivate songwriters to continue to create music for the masses.

We are thankful for the efforts of David Israelite, President and CEO of the National Music Publishers’ Association and his staff for their hard work on this long rate decision process

The AIMP has joined forces with the NMPA, Nashville Songwriters Association (NSAI) and Songwriters Guild of America (SGA) on making additional comments on Section 115 Compusory Licensing.
