Copyright Office Updates the Compendium of U.S. Copyright Office Practices

June 4, 2017

On June 1, the U.S. Copyright Office released a revised draft of the Compendium of U.S. Copyright Office Practices, Third Edition, which will go into effect on July 3, 2017. This draft s the first update to the Compendium since it was released in December 2014.  The Compendium is the technical manual for the Office’s staff, as well as a guidebook for authors, copyright licensees, practitioners, scholars, the courts, and members of the general public. It addresses fundamental principles of copyright law, routine questions about accessing the Office’s public services, and the policies and procedures the Office uses in the course of conducting business.

Comments on the draft can be submitted here through June 30, 2017. More information is available here.
