A&R/PRODUCERS 2005 UPDATE: GETTING HEARD, GETTING COVERS, GETTING NOTICED


Job descriptions for Publishers, A&R executives and Producers continue to evolve. An ?A? list of Producers and A&R executives will discuss challenges and opportunities facing music publishers today. Panelists will discuss creative strategies for publishers seeking covers exploiting catalogue as well as exposure for their singer/songwriters. Additional topics will include opportunities presented by new media/technology trends, the 125 major independent labels and emerging collaborative trends between publishers - producers and A&R. Don?t miss this valuable panel!

Reservations accepted online at www.aimp.org or by telephone at 818-771-7301 until midnight the day before the luncheon. Please do not leave reservations on the phone line on the morning of the luncheon as we can not accept them. Online reservations can be paid online by credit card however credit cards are not accepted at the door. Payment at the door by cash or check ONLY. Anyone making a reservation on Monday through Wednesday the week of this event will be served pasta. Those who walk up without a reservation will be served whatever is available.

MCLE and CPE credits:

Attorneys and CPAs are able to register for continuing education credit for attending AIMP events. Be sure to have your state bar or CPA license number with you for the sign-in sheet. You must take your certificate of completion with you on the day of the event. AIMP can not issue certificates after the fact.

 

Special Rate For Full-time Students:

Full-time students with a current student I.D. will be admitted to most LA luncheons for $32.00 per person. All qualifying students must reserve in advance by phone and can pay by check or cash at the door. There are no online reservation or payment services for this discounted rate.

THE HOTEL PREPARES ALL MEALS BASED ON OUR ADVANCE ORDERS. THERE CAN BE ABSOLUTELY NO MEAL SUBSTITUTIONS MADE ON THE DAY OF THE LUNCHEON.

**PANELIST BIOS**

John Alagia:

Over the last 15 years John Alagia has produced music for the Dave Matthews Band, Emmylou Harris, David Gray, Ben Folds Five, O.A.R., Edwin McCain, Vertical Horizon, Jason Mraz, Unwritten Law and Grammy winner John Mayer. Collectively his work has sold millions of records. John makes his home on the eastern shore of Maryland, 90 minutes from Washington, D.C. He's also a member of the board of trustees for the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.

John Burk:

John Burk has been the Executive Vice President and Head of A&R at Concord Records since 1991. He is primarily responsible for the production of all new recordings and artist development. John has personally produced well in excess of 100 recordings by artists such as Ray Charles, Rosemary Clooney, Mel Torm?, Tito Puente, Michael Feinstein and Poncho Sanchez, some of which earned him nine Grammy Award nominations and six Grammy Awards, including 2005?s Album of the Year and Record of the Year.

Tony Ferguson:

Tony Ferguson has been with Interscope Records as A&R for 13 years. He began his career in music with two #1 world wide hits as a musician in the UK, then worked at Stiff Records, and the Springsteen organization. He has managed Lone Justice, Maria McKee, Grand Funk Railroad, and Little Caesar.

Raine Maida:

Raine Maida is the frontman/writer for the Columbia Records rock band Our Lady Peace. OLP is responsible for selling over 5 million records as well as founding the alternative rock festival Summersault. In the last few years he has begun producing and writing for such artists as Avril Lavigne, Kelly Clarkson, The Veronicas, Men Women &Children, Late Night Drive, Sleepway and Chantal Kreviazuk.
