Operation Hope: 5 Million Kids Summit

AIMP PARTNERS WITH OPERATION HOPE ON FIVE MILLION KIDS INITIATIVE TO KEEP KIDS IN SCHOOL BY “MAKING SMART SEXY” AGAIN VIA STRONG ROLE MODELS IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY

FACT:  When the population of any community consists of 3.7% of role models or less, all negative social behaviors are seen to explode, from the high school drop out rate to the level of crime.  But in a community with 5% or more of positive role models, the neighborhood stabilizes.

On September 29, 2009, Operation Hope and AIMP visited Bret Harte Middle School in Inglewood for the 5 Million Kids West Coast launch event. The national 5MK initiative seeks to end the high school dropout epidemic by showing kids the relevance of school in building a successful future.  In addition to educational programming, the day featured musical performances and appearances by Ambassador Andrew Young, Quincy Jones, actor-model Tyrese, and Quincy "QD3" Jones III.

Educational programming consisted of over 40 classroom sessions hosted by Operation Hope in partnership with AIMP. Operation Hope hosted classrooms offering financial literacy curriculum and courses in dignity.  AIMP hosted 16 classrooms offering an insight into careers in the music business “beyond being an artist.”

For more information on this event and AIMP's continuing work in the community, please contact event organizer and AIMP Executive Director, Kasaan Steigen.
