The NMS Brand, Tech and Business Closed-Door Industry Summits

July 20th New York City

 Architects of the New Music Business to Discuss Key Issues and Industry Solutions

 June 28th, 2010 - New York, New York  - New Music Seminar, the future of music conference for artists and industry taking over New York City’s Webster Hall from July 19th through the 21st, will be hosting three high-level, closed-door industry summits during conference on Tuesday, July 20th: The NMS Brand Summit, The NMS Tech Summit and The NMS Business Summit: The New Deal. 

 The purpose of each summit will be to provide a forum for intensive dialogue about the future of the music industry as it pertains to innovations and relationships with Branding, Technology and New Business Models.

 The NMS Brand Summit:  Brand and Music 2.1

 The Brand and Music 2.1 Summit at NMS will be hosted in partnership Josh Gertz and Brad Josling of Hip Digital who will also be moderating along with Tom Silverman of NMS and Ted Cohen of TAG Strategic from 11 AM to 1 PM on Tuesday, July 20th in the Marlin Room at Webster Hall. The interactive roundtable format will focus on the convergence of creative content and technology and how to leverage music and innovation to create consumer engagement. Expect a mix of advertising and branding executives along with technology companies, labels and creators in attendance.

 THE NMS Tech Summit:

The NMS Tech Summit moderated by Ted Cohen of TAG Strategic and Bill Wilson of NARM (National Association of Recording Merchandisers), Tuesday, July 20th from 4 PM to 6 PM in the Marlin Room at Webster Hall, will aim to showcase the bright industry spots on what some are calling a "bleak horizon”. At a time when recorded music revenues continue to decline, so has the level of investment in the very startups that could transform the business. The Tech Summit will include a State of the Music Tech Report by TAG. NARM will introduce the newly formed cross-industry Product Innovation Workgroup, intended to network companies and thought-leaders willing to openly address the pain points and work together to breakdown barriers. In an open forum discussion, attendees will outline the must-needed next steps to reinvigorate the business.

 NMS New Business Models Summit: The New Deal

Tom Silverman along with Music law veterans Adam Ritholz and Jim Cooperman and venture capitalist David Pakman (formerly eMusic chief) will moderate the NMS New Deal Summit, Tuesday, July 20th from 1:30 to 3:30 PM in the Marlin Room at Webster Hall, addressing the new economics and legal agreements for the next music business. We will be looking at new economic models with risk/reward ratios that allow for a sustainable music business. The traditional “recording contract” is over 50 years old and will soon be obsolete. It is not transparent. It is not understandable by artists. It encourages an adversarial relationship between artists and their investors.  It does not encourage risk taking by investors. The NMS New Deal Summit will assess the  new contract forms that are emerging already that will document these new economic realities.
