AIMP Creative Session - Synch Pitch - Part 2

This will be the follow up to this year’s Creative Sessions to recognize the power that a synch has.  This year we have ESPN’s fantastic music men Kevin Wilson(Music Director) and Claude Mitchell (Coordinating Director of Music) joining us.   The show they are presenting briefs for is the wildly popular “First Take”

During session 1 on April 9th, we heard discussion of how music finds its way into ESPN shows, and heard the creative brief presented for First Take.  A video podcast of the presentation is available for AIMP members in the Media Section on our website.  Writers have been asked to go off and write to brief.  Publishers are also welcome to submit.

All songs will be reviewed and a list of top contenders will be made.  Writers will be notified if their songs have made the top list.  During session 2 (Cutting Room May 20th, 5:30pm – 7pm) the top contending songs will be played and discussed. Kevin and Claude will then determine the choice songs for each show.

If a choice song is selected, ESPN will issue a $750 all in (master and publishing) synch license under standard terms and conditions for use of the songs in the show.  The songs will be used in a July and August showing respectively.  To be used, choice songs will need to be mixed and mastered and fully cleared.  In addition to the placement, the song title and artist name will by chyroned during the show.  There may also be some TBD ESPN social tie-ins.

 Creative Brief

First Take is a daily studio show focused on debating the hottest current topics in sports. The show is hosted by Cari Champion and designed to present and challenge the opinions of featured commentators Skip Bayless and Stephen A. Smith, as well as various guest analysts. First Take doesn’t cover all the day’s sports stories – just the most debatable ones. It’s not a show about nuance and ambiguity – it’s a show with strong opinions that must be defined and defended. It’s real. It’s debate. The music we use on First take helps accentuate the debate content of the show. We use all genres of music  on First take such as Hip Hop, Country, EDM, Rock and all styles in between. The music that works the best with the program captures the attitude and/or good natured banter on the show.  Have some fun, think debate, think first take and send us what you come up with. We are excited to hear what each of you will develop.
