CSUSA Copyright Conversations Series Presents: Howard King

Please join the the AIMP as we welcome the Los Angeles Chapter of the Copyright Society of the USA for its next "Copyright Conversation" between renowned entertainment attorneys Howard King and Ed McPherson.  Mr. King will be discussing his representation of Robin Thicke and Pharrell in the Blurred Lines decision, its impact on the music industry, and the future of sampling, songwriting, and composing.

Attention attorneys: this activity has been approved for one hour of Minimum Continuing Legal Education Credit by the State Bar of California. Attorneys wishing to register for MCLE credit should bring their state bar number with them for the sign in sheet.  [Pick up your certificate at the event– we cannot issue certificates after-the-fact.]

Howard E. King - Partner, King, Holmes, Paterno & Soriano, LLP

Mr. King is managing partner of the firm and has broad experience representing individuals and companies in all facets of corporate, real estate, music and entertainment law, as well as complex business, real estate, banking, finance, and copyright and trademark litigation. Mr. King has been named as one of The Hollywood Reporter's “Power 100 Lawyers in Entertainment,” has been designated a “Super Lawyer“ by Super Lawyers magazine, and has been included in the Los Angeles Daily Journal's list of “California’s Top Entertainment Lawyers."  Mr. King received his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Los Angeles (B.A. 1974), and his law degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, School of Law (J.D. 1977).

Edwin F. McPherson - Partner, McPherson Rane LLP

Ed McPherson has been practicing law for thirty-three years.  He recently was honored in Billboard Magazine’s “50 Attorneys of Note in the Music Biz.”  He has received an AV® Preeminent™ rating from Martindale-Hubbell®, which is the highest possible rating awarded.  He also has been recognized as a California Super Lawyer for multiple years.He started his own firm in 1991, which became McPherson & Grossblatt, McPherson & Kalmansohn, and ultimately McPherson Rane LLP.  In all incarnations, his firm has handled all phases of complex entertainment and business litigation.  Before starting his own firm, he was with the entertainment litigation firm of Lavely & Singer in Century City, where he represented all factions of the entertainment community in many areas of litigation.  Before joining Lavely & Singer in 1989, Mr. McPherson was with the Beverly Hills entertainment firm of Cooper, Epstein & Hurewitz, where he handled all phases of entertainment litigation as well as many aspects of music, film, and television transactional matters.  Mr. McPherson began his career at Booth, Mitchel, Strange & Smith, specializing in complex insurance coverage matters and bad faith litigation, wrongful termination, and legal and accounting malpractice.
