The BH Bar presents Shake, Rattle & Roll: A Panel on The Cases That Rocked Music in 2015

The Beverly Hills Bar Association is presenting a panel discussion on the landmark copyright cases that rocked the music industry in 2015, including the controversial “Blurred Lines” case between the heirs of Marvin Gaye and Pharrell and Robin Thicke, the “Flo & Eddie” class action cases regarding the protections afforded to pre-1972 sound recordings, and the “Happy Birthday to You” case. This event will be held on April 20, 2016 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Lawry’s The Prime Rib Restaurant located at 100 North La Cienega Blvd., Beverly Hills, CA.

Henry Gradstein (litigator, Flo & Eddie), Howard King (litigator, Blurred Lines), Mark Rifkin (litigator, Happy Birthday to You) will delve into the hearts of these important decisions, discuss the unique issues presented therein, and provide an overview of the significance of these rulings going forward.  In addition, Dr. E. Michael Harrinton (musicologist and expert witness on cases for Deadmau5, Lady Gaga, Tupac Shakur, etc.) will discuss how music is analyzed in copyright infringement cases and how expert testimony can weigh heavily on the jury’s eventual decision.  The program will be moderated by Dinah Perez (entertainment attorney with the Law Office of Dinah Perez).  A Q & A session will follow the presentation.

This event is open to members of the Beverly Hills Bar Association and the general public. Tickets are specially priced at $45 for this event and may be purchased by contacting (310)601-2422.
