Blockchain - A New Dance Craze Or The Same Old Two-Step?

Blockchain is the public, non-regulated ledger associated with crypto-currency (encrypted digital or virtual currency). The blockchain records all crypto-currency transactions and has complete information about every participant in blocks that are constantly added in a linear, chronological order.  What’s that got to do with us?  Well, many thinkers now believe that blockchain technology can be incorporated into the music rights business. While some commentators suggest that a decentralized registry could become the “nirvana music API” for real-time rights verification and licensing, others see significant implementation and privacy challenges.

For our first panel this fall season, we are pleased to have assembled a group of experts in music-related blockchain technology and law.  We look forward to a night of robust discussion on the promises and challenges this new thinking might bring to the business of music.
