Bill Popp Solo album release party

 For Immediate Release

                                        BILL POPP “SOLO”

After 37 years of recording with The Tapes, Popp records solo album

Veteran New York rocker Bill Popp will release his first solo CD titled “BILL POPP SOLO” on Wednesday October 24thstarting at 6:30 PM with a party at The Parkside Lounge (317 Houston Streetcorner of Attorney Street, NYC). Guests will receive a free copy of “BILL POPP SOLO” at the door, as well as refreshments, with a live solo performance by Popp, with other guest solo performers to follow. The 13 song album consists of Popp’s vocals and piano (and on two of the songs he plays kazoo!)

Bill Popp and The Tapes have been a fixture in the New York music world for more than 37 years and counting. Through the years, the bands’ musicianship, Popp’s songwriting and vocal ability, along with their harmonies, won the group favorable reviews in publications such as Billboard,The New York Daily NewsThe Village Voiceand The All Music Guide, to name a few.

Before the band was formed in 1981 Popp was a solo performer crooning his tunes for the Sangria set in long gone clubs, such as the Dugout and Folk City in the West Village.

Through the years, along with the band doing over 1000 gigs, Popp would play an occasional solo gig. In later years, though Popp’s main focus was on the band, his solo shows became more frequent, becoming its own entity.

When it came to selling CD’s at his solo shows, the only ones he had to sell were band CD’s, which did not represent what he was doing solo.  So, it became apparent he needed to record a solo album with just Popp at the piano singing --- BILL POPP SOLO.

The theme of the evening “Solo Performers Only”

At 7:30 Popp will kick off the live music with a set of songs from his new album followed by other noted performers playing solo only.

The event is open to the public and there’s no cover charge – that’s right, it’s a Freebee.

A splendid time is guaranteed for all
