Promotion Manager Grand Rights (NY)

Schirmer/AMP, is the oldest continuously active North American classical music publisher and is part of the Music Sales Group, a world leader in classical music publishing.  The Music Sales Group’s global network of publishing houses include prestigious catalogues from Chester Music and  Edition Wilhelm Hansen to Alphonse Leduc and Novello.

The successful candidate will have an enthusiastic flair for building creative relationships

within the opera and ballet marketplaces and will be able to successfully design and

execute well-researched,  targeted promotional strategies which lead to increased

revenue in these market areas. As a sales-based position, the successful candidate

will be a self-starter who is comfortable initiating relationships, writing pitch proposals,

and leading programming discussions with new and existing contacts in the field. The

Promotion Manager will work within the team responsible for the Music Sales Group

catalogues and roster of Pulitzer, Grammy, Oscar, and Emmy-winning composers


G. Schirmer represents some of the most important creators from the 20th and 21st

centuries: Matthew Aucoin, John Corigliano, Bryce Dessner, Avner Dorman, Tan Dun,

John Harbison, Missy Mazzoli, Nico Muhly, Kaija Saariaho, Bright Sheng, Sarah Kirkland

Snider, Joby Talbot, Anna Thorvaldsdottir, Joan Tower, Daniel Wohl. The Music Sales Group

also represents music by the celebrated composers of the past including Barber, Catan,

Ellington, Ives, Lieberson, Lutoslawski, Menotti, Prokofiev, Rachmaninov, Shostakovich,

Stravinsky and Tavener.


  • Devise and implement short and long-term promotion plans for local
  • and international markets.
  • Consult regularly with artistic planners, artistic directors,
    choreographers, directors and act upon opportunities for all composers
  • associated with the company.
  • Negotiate commission fees and contracts, in liaison with the
    Director of Publishing and Administration, on behalf of our
  • Attend significant concerts and events, locally and internationally.


  • Extensive knowledge of the classical music field with a focus on
    ballet and opera repertoire.
  • A proven network and experience in the opera and ballet market
  • Creative and strategic thinker able to match-make opportunities
    between represented music and makers in the field of opera and ballet.
  • An understanding of trends in classical music programming.
  • A keen eye for detail, along with excellent writing and time-
    management skills.
  • Bachelor’s Degree Required.
  • Outstanding communication skills, including computer, written and
