Copyright & Royalties Manager (LA)

Angry Mob Music, a Los Angeles-based music publishing and master rights administration company, is looking for a Copyright & Royalties Manager. This role will provide consolidated support in the areas of copyright, licensing, and royalties. We are a boutique company and welcome team members with an entrepreneurial spirit. General Responsibilities:

  • Support strategic initiatives for process improvement including consolidation of copyright, licensing and royalties functions.
  • Continue to improve processes and deliverables based on current business needs.
  • Handle day-to-day activities of the copyright & royalties department including reviewing contracts/licenses, update and maintain registrations, databases and files.


Copyrights & Licensing Responsibilities:

  • Update and maintain Music Maestro database with accurate copyright and works information such as titles, splits, and writer/publisher names and PRO affiliations.
  • Review relevant agreements and internal correspondence to verify accuracy of database entries and resolve any outstanding issues in a timely manner,
  • Register works with the US Copyright Office, performing rights societies, and other collection agents, and notify all interested parties such as subpublishers and catalog licensees. Maintain accurate termination information with all parties.
  • Obtain information from new licenses and enter into Music Maestro database.
  • Enter A/R information into database and ensure system is up-to-date with income receipts and other royalties received.
  • Run a quarterly audit system report for Management’s review of the accuracy and completeness of copyright registrations and licensing data.


Royalty Responsibilities:

  • Enter payable client information into the Music Maestro database.
  • Run quarterly royalty statements and provide to Management for review. Liaise royalty data exchange with payment vendor for processing.
  • Assist Management in reconciling database client liability report to general ledger balance on a quarterly basis.
  • Prepare listing of writer/publisher recoupment balances and provide to Management for review and accounting on a quarterly basis.
  • Prepare ad hoc royalty reports and data spreadsheets as requested.
  • Respond to client inquiries regarding royalties, copyright, and payments.


Required Competencies/Skills:

  • Minimum of 3 years of professional combined experience in financial, license and royalty administration within the music industry.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience working in Music Maestro (formerly Counterpoint), with special consideration for proficiency in Maestro Data Gateway.
  • Detailed oriented with strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and delegate as needed.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to effectively progress data-intensive projects forward in a creative manner.
  • Good leadership qualities with the capability to work under pressure and cultivate and develop key relationships. Team player with strong interpersonal skills and positive attitude.
  • Ability to be innovative and suggest change/improvements within scope of work; anticipates needs and creates efficient and effective processes.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with equally strong research skills.
  • Cross-platform (Mac/Windows) computer literacy with proficiency in Music Maestro and Excel.


Education Required:

  • A Bachelor degree with a major in accounting/finance, music business/industry or music rights administration.
