In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Billboard's Latin editors will share their personal HHM playlist with readers through Oct. 15. Griselda Flores, senior writer - Latin, shares hers today. ____________________________________________________________________ Growing up in Chicago to Mexican parents in the early '90s meant that music by Los Temerarios, Grupo Límite and Banda Machos was blasting through our speakers on a typical Saturday morning. Unlike many of my family members who were embracing American music and artists then, my parents stuck with their grupero and norteño anthems maybe as a way to feel closer to home or perhaps to defy any societal expectations of assimilation. Back then, I resented not being too familiar with the music that was popular on the radio, but now, I can only thank them for raising me in a household that, through music, celebrated our Mexican roots. My Hispanic Heritage Month playlist is dedicated to my mom and dad, who emigrated from Mexico to the U.S. in 1980 and provided an extraordinary soundtrack to my childhood. I hope you enjoy these 10 classics as much as I do. |
