New York, NY (July 22, 2019) – The New York Chapter of the Association of Independent Music Publishers (AIMP) will present the prestigious 2019 New York Chapter Indie Award to independent music publisher Atlas Music Publishing, its CEO/Founder, Richard Stumpf, and its COO/Partner, Phil Cialdella. The presentation will take place at the Chapter’s annual Holiday Party, on Wednesday, December 4, at 5:30 p.m. at the National Arts Club (15 Gramercy Park South) in New York City. The award recognizes individuals and organizations that have contributed significantly to the independent music publishing industry. Since 2000, when their decade working together at legendary indie Cherry Lane Music started, through their partnership today at Atlas, both executives have been fierce advocates for writers and copyrights. In their everyday business and through the various boards they’ve served on ranging from the AIMP, A2IM, NMPA and Recording Academy, Rich and Phil have consistently let their voices be heard in support of creators. Both were long time lobbyists and supporters of the MMA, which saw passage late in 2018. Having had the pleasure over the past two decades of representing incredible writers and catalogs including Quincy Jones, Elvis Presley, John Denver, John Legend, The Black Eyed Peas, Van Halen, Toby Gad, Dan the Automator, Warren Haynes and 2019 six-time Grammy nominee and three-time Grammy winner Brandi Carlile, the pair have cemented an artist first / do it the “right way” reputation in the industry. This reputation caught the attention of Scooter Braun, who is known for nurturing the careers of Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, Zac Brown Band, Tori Kelly, and more. Earlier this year Scooter’s Ithaca Holdings partnered with Atlas to bring two of the most prolific teams in the music industry together. Already the paring has resulted in collaborations between Atlas writers and SB Projects’ artists such as Warren Haynes with Zac Brown, as well as Emlyn and Nick Lee with Demi Lovato. Additionally, in the spirit of attracting new ears to legendary copyrights, Atlas was the genesis of the Armin Van Buuren remix of Van Halen’s “Jump,” which he debuted at the Ultra Music Festival earlier this year. “We’ve watched Atlas’ presence in the music scene grow immensely within the past few years,” said Alisa Coleman, AIMP NY Chapter President and COO of ABKCO Music & Records, Inc. “Rich and Phil are consistently supporting the indie publishing community—Phil Cialdella, COO of Atlas, is an active AIMP NY board member, and Richard Stumpf is both a Recording Academy Trustee and NMPA IPAC board member. They truly demonstrate the values we celebrate with our AIMP NY Indie Award.” “As the times change, our goal at Atlas will stay consistent: to make sure creators are acknowledged and paid fairly in order to nurture the songwriter community and ensure that the beat continues on,” said Richard Stumpf, Founder and CEO of Atlas Music Publishing. “It’s truly an honor to be acknowledged and supported by the AIMP as we continue to advocate for change in the music world, while also making chart-topping hits. As I’ve learned throughout my career, it all starts with the right team and company ethos. I’ve been fortunate to call Phil a friend and partner for many years. He and the entire Atlas team bring what’s right in the music business to our writers. Atlas is a special place and something we are all very proud to be building together.” “We searched for the right music publishing partner for a while, spoke with many people we trust, and Rich and Phil’s names kept coming up. After getting to know them, it was clear to us that they were doing it right. At Atlas they have created an artist first culture, much like our own at SB Projects. I’m very happy that the AIMP is recognizing their hard work and dedication to writers and congratulate them on receiving the Indie Award,” said Scooter Braun, founder of Ithaca Holdings, LLC, which partnered with Atlas earlier this year. Past winners of the AIMP New York Chapter Indie Award include Reservoir Media, Julie Menin of the New York Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment (MoME), U.S. Congressman Jerrold Nadler, Justin Kalifowitz of Downtown Music Publishing, Martin Mills and Andy Heath of Beggars Group, Paul Williams of ASCAP, John LoFrumento of ASCAP, Michael Brettler of Shapiro Bernstein & Co., Valerie Simpson, Phil Ramone of Master Music Maker, and David Israelite of the NMPA.
