April News

  • We hope you are all safe and taking care of yourself amid the Covid-19 pandemic. Given the current extraordinary circumstances, we are postponing our Global Music Publishing Summit, which was originally scheduled for June 8-10, 2020, to June 7-9, 2021. Those who registered should have received instructions on transferring their tickets to 2021 or requesting a refund via Eventbrite. However, we will be adapting several planned sessions from the Summit for the Global Music Publishing Summit Webinar Series, which will be held weekly in June.
  • Unfortunately, this means we are also cancelling all in-person Chapter events for the time being. However, on April 9th, we will start with the first episode of a new weekly webinar series, which will focus on the recently passed CARES Act and other resources available to help independent publishers and songwriters deal with Covid-19.
  • Through this, the AIMP is continuing its advocacy for the independent music publishing community. We are posting updates on resources for music companies that have been impacted by the pandemic, and our Chapter heads are in contact with the mayoral offices in Los Angeles, New York, and Nashville to advise them of the effect this is having in our industry. If you have any questions or need support, please do not hesitate to reach out to one of our chapters: LAinfo@aimp.org, NYinfo@aimp.org, or NAinfo@aimp.org.

  • The AIMP is a proud partner of the Music Covid Relief web resource! The website is designed to help music professionals, including independent publishers and songwriters, access information and applications to receive benefits made available by the CARES Act (Phase III of the Coronavirus Stimulus bill signed into law March 27, 2020). We hope this resource will be of help to you in these unpredictable times.
  • ASCAP - Bill Withers, the legendary and Grammy Award-winning soul singer-songwriter behind the timeless hits “Ain’t No Sunshine,” “Lovely Day,” “Just the Two of Us,” “Use Me,” “Grandma’s Hands” and “Lean on Me,” has died at the age of 81.  “We lost a giant of songwriting today,” said ASCAP President and Chairman Paul Williams. “Bill Withers’ songs are among the most treasured and profound in the American songbook - universal in the way they touch people all over the world, transcending genre and generation. • BMI - New Directions: David Foster on Songwriting, Broadway and His New Album, ‘Eleven Words.’  A consummate songwriter, producer, arranger, composer and recording artist of genuinely global renown, David Foster has led a career that has raised the bar and left an indelible impact on generations of music lovers and the music industry that spans decades.  Read more here.
  • SESAC Applauds The Passing of CARES Act - "Now more than ever, it is our collective responsibility to protect our music creators. They have not only remained committed to their craft of making music during this unprecedented time but have also provided a sense of unity, connection and passion, which will only strengthen our nation in the days to come. To that end, today the U.S. House of Representatives passed the historic stimulus package and we’re grateful to all Members of Congress and their relentless efforts on getting this Bill passed. The “Cares Act (Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act),” is critical to recharge the economy while providing relief to so many American businesses and workers, and we’re thrilled that certain provisions will include relief for many music professionals who are independent contractors, small business owners or self-employed."  John Josephson, Chairman and CEO
