  • Primary Wave (& our LA Chapter's Indie Publisher Of The Year) has raised over $800m in the past four years via two IP funds: a $300m fund in 2016, backed by Black Rock, and a further $500m-plus fund launched last year.  This money has been used by Primary Wave to acquire premium music assets that live up to the company’s billing as “the home of legends”.  As such, today Primary Wave owns substantial interests in the song catalogs of icons such as Ray Charles, Bob Marley, Whitney Houston, Burt Bacharach, Smokey Robinson and the Four Seasons.  You can hear more from CEO and Co-Founder Larry Mestel here.
  • NMPA CEO David Israelite says "Twitch harms everyone by refusing to license music."  Read David's guest column in Billboard here, and hear David speak to the AIMP on January 28th, 2021.

  • ASCAP congratulates its 2021 Grammy Nominees - leading the pack is Beyoncé with a whopping nine nominations, followed closely by pop queen Dua Lipa with six. Pop giant Justin Bieber, acclaimed indie rocker Phoebe Bridgers, hip-hop firebrand DaBaby and last year’s reigning Grammy champion Billie Eilish earned four nods a piece.  Click here for their full list.
  • BMI congratulates its 2020 Ivors Composer Award Winners - this distinction celebrates the best new works by UK composers writing for classical, jazz and sound art (their PRS affiliates who license their music through BMI in the United States).  Read the full list here.
  • SESAC affiliates Lee Brice and Jenee Fleenor were honored with trophies during the 54th Annual CMA Awards, held November 11, 2020 at the Music City Center in Nashville. This is Fleenor’s second consecutive win in the Musician of the Year category; she was honored for the first time in 2019 becoming the first woman to be both nominated and win in CMA Awards history. Brice received the CMA Award for Musical Event of the Year for his collaboration with Carly Pearce, “I Hope You’re Happy Now,” which became the sixth number one single of his career.  Read more here.
