  • Our NY Chapter has officially launched the 2022 AIMP Winter Mentorship Program, which is open to members of all chapters. Mentors and mentees can be from any facet of the music industry (publishers, lawyers, accountants, administrators, artists, managers, etc.), from independent companies or majors, and based anywhere in the US. Everyone is encouraged to join in this program, but please note that the deadline to apply is February 11, 2022.   
  • We are excited to add two new members to our Boards of Directors!  Jonathan D. Haskell, VP of Publishing at ALIBI Music, and Brooke Primont, SVP of Synchronization at Concord Music Publishing, have been appointed to the Los Angeles and New York Chapters of the AIMP Boards of Directors, respectively. Haskell will complete the final year of outgoing LA Board member Cassie Lord’s two-year term, and Primont will do the same for outgoing NY Board member Dana Siegel.

  • In the US, the mechanical royalty rate that music streaming services including Spotify and Apple Music pay songwriters, is set by the Copyright Royalty Board.  The CRB is currently in the midst of proceedings to determine songwriter streaming royalty rates for the five years between 2023 and 2027.  But did you know, that behind the scenes at the CRB, there are just three individuals – three judges – charged with conducting those proceedings?  One of those roles is currently up for grabs.  Read more here
  • With the looming retirement of Supreme Court Justice Stephen G. Breyer, tech policy wonks say the high court is losing one of the nation’s preeminent thought leaders on intellectual property and copyright  But while Breyer may be on his way out of federal court, his influence over those standards, and how they map onto emerging technologies, is poised to live on long after.  Read more here
  • ASCAP Celebrates Black History Month with a Daily Campaign Highlighting Pivotal Figures in Black Music Culture on @ASCAP and @ASCAPURBAN Social Media - Daily posts will include fun facts, photos and reels that commemorate the impact of Black artists, songwriters and composers spanning decades and musical genres, including Stevie Wonder, Nat King Cole, Mary J. Blige, Ms. Lauryn Hill,  Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Whitney Houston, The Notorious B.I.G., Charley Pride, Louis Armstrong and more. Viewers will also be able to participate in interactive trivia questions via Instagram stories.  Read more here
  • BMI songwriter and Curb recording artist Hannah Ellis was the featured entertainment at the 2022 “Rising Above,” a virtual sales and management media summit. Ellis performed an inspired set of original songs, including “Us,” which is her latest single that was released to country radio late last year. The Campbellsville, Kentucky native was named by Rolling Stone magazine as an “Artist to Watch,” and was part of CMT’s “Next Women of Country” tour. She has also shared the stage with the likes of Devin Dawson, Dwight Yoakum and Gavin DeGraw, and made her Grand Ole Opry debut last year.  Read more here.  
  • SESAC affiliate Dixson on Collaborating with Beyonce on ‘Be Alive’: ‘I’m Honored for the Recognition That the Song Has Gotten.'  Beyonce's “Be Alive,” which she co-wrote with Dixson, is a contender for the best original song Oscar this year with “King Richard.”  Read the interview here
